Lark Our Story

A note from the founder:

An abusive relationship is one of the most isolating, confusing, tumultious things a person can go through. The effects of abuse are so insidious that we often don’t recognize that something is gravely wrong until the damage has already been done.

Leaving an abusive relationships –whether it’s with a signifiant other, family member, job, other otherwise– can be almost as difficult as living with the abuse itself. And unless someone has experienced this, it’s hard to understand. The healing process after leaving can be just as hard.

For many years,I didn’t know that there were more kinds of abuse than just physical. I thought, he doesn’t hit me, so it can’t really be abusive. It took me ten years to realize that abuse comes in many forms, and it took me ten years leave my relationship with an abusive partner. It took me years after that to leave an extremely toxic and psychologically damaging workplace. It took me even longer to set boundaries and cut ties with family members who were abusive.

What I hadn’t realized is that I was repeating my trauma over and over again with the subconscious hope that it might be better this time. If I can prove myself worthy this time, I will feel healed.

I created Lark because it’s the tool I didn’t have when I was desperately seeking answers within myself and trying to “deprogram” myself from the abuse. Everything in this app is something that I wish I’d had access to when I was trying to leave abuse, and when I was trying to pick up the pieces after I finally broke free.

If this app can help even one person, I feel as if it’s done its job.

I want you to know that you are not alone on this journey. Know that with each milestone you hit on this app, hundreds of thousands of people have been right where you are, and each one of us is connected by a shared experience that only we understand. And we’re all pushing for you to get through to the other side.

No matter what you’ve been through, you CAN overcome abuse, and you absolutely deserve healing.

Congratulations on taking this extremely brave step in regaining control of your life and your new future. Many people don’t make it this far. Just the fact that you are here speaks volumes about your resilience.

You’ve got this.
